Board Members

President, Ric Buchanan

My name is Ric Buchanan and I’m running as a candidate for President of the Coral Ridge Isles Civic Association.  My partner and I moved here in September 2017 and joined the Civic Association shortly after.  I have recently served as the Secretary of the Association from April 2019-2021.  Previously, I served for 19 ½ years as the Executive Director of an international not-for-profit supporting families and friends of alcoholics.  Prior to that position, I served on their Board and finally as President.  I have been on numerous Boards and Committees working to serve the Community in both Virginia and Ohio.  Some of those commitments also included leadership roles.  I look forward to serving our beautiful community and to assist our residents by linking them to the various City, County, and State services to address their needs.

Vice President, Salim Hatem

I am 78 years old, married to Arlene Hatem for 44 years, have two girls and 3 grandkids. I have been in Coral Ridge Isles for over 15 years and have always been involved with the association. I love this neighborhood and the people that live here. Retired after working 50 years in the Financial Market.

Secretary, Barbara Hume

Barbara Hume has lived in Coral Ridge Isles since 1982.  She and her husband John thought CRI was a great place to raise their two sons, John David and Robbie, now 43 and 38 and living in Texas and Indiana, respectively.  She has worked in the legal field for over 50 years as a legal secretary, legal assistant and is now a Florida Registered Paralegal.  She served as Secretary of the CRICA from 2015 to 2019.  She is active in other organizations, as Treasurer of Fontenada Chapter of DAR and Welfare Chair of Children's Aid Club.  She presently serves as liaison for CRI on the Green Your Routine Committee for the City of Fort Lauderdale and is the "steward" of our Little Free Library near the north entryway.

Treasurer, Bruce Hedges

Bruce has been a resident of Coral Ridge Isles since 1976. He is the son of Diane Hedges, husband to Laura, and dad to Marley. Bruce is a real estate agent and primary of the The Hedges Team - specializing in listing CRI homes. He cherishes work, cycling, yoga, snorkeling, beach days with family, travel (hopefully more often after Covid 19 ends) and the healthy South Florida lifestyle. Bruce attended Pine Crest and is a University of Florida Alumnus.

NW Quadrant Leader, Barbara Boruch

Barbara and her husband Greg have lived in Coral Ridge Isles since 1990.  Barbara, her parents and siblings moved to Pompano Beach in 1969. Barbara and Greg have one son - Christopher - who graduated from Cardinal Gibbons and FSU.  He is a police officer in Utah and on April 28, 2019, he and his wife gifted them with their first grandchild, a boy named Grayson. Barbara is retired from her CFO position in an auto dealership group who had dealerships all over the state.

You may have seen her on her bike or on foot most evenings around the neighborhood handing out "treats" to her canine friends.  Mostly she spends time working in her gardens around the house - especially the butterfly attraction.  Barbara loves living in Coral Ridge Isles and is looking forward to participation in the CRIHOA.  Barbara considers this neighborhood with its low crime rate, reasonable taxes, and really nice neighbors to be one of the premier neighborhoods in Eastern Broward.

NE Quadrant Leader, Jack Hyman

Jack has lived in CRI for 5 years. He is a native Texan but moved to Fort Lauderdale from NYC where he continues to work as a playwright, librettist, and children’s book writer. Jack and his husband have enjoyed this neighborhood and found it to be friendly, open, and always filled with surprises. Between them they have 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and a 45-year-old Amazon Parrot who sings show tunes.

SW Quadrant Leader,  Peter Partington

Peter has lived in CRI since 1986. He was born in the United Kingdom and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida. He retired from the City Engineer position with Fort Lauderdale in 2011. He and his wife, Nicola, have two children and one grandchild who they visit frequently in Orlando. Peter and Nicola return to the UK for extended visits but always enjoy returning to sunny Coral Ridge Isles.

SE Quadrant Leader, Rosie Shade

Rosie is originally from Puerto Rico. Her family moved to Brooklyn New York when she was very young. She lived in NYC until 1978 when she moved to Miami, Florida. Rosie has worked in sales for over 25 years. After being unemployed for a brief period of time a good friend of hers suggested she get her real estate license. She got her license and within 3 weeks she was working in real estate. She is now at the Sea Ranch office of Coldwell Banker Realty where she moved to recently.  When Rosie is not working, she is home with her husband and her fur babies, Sasha, Misty Blue & Kai. She enjoys spending time with her grandkids in Georgia and or vacationing in NC. Her everyday goal is to promote positivity and kindness to all she comes in touch with.
